About the position

The Prep Cook at MorningStar Senior Living is responsible for preparing, cooking, seasoning, and serving nutritious and balanced meals for residents in a senior living community. This role emphasizes the importance of food quality and safety, ensuring that meals are not only appealing but also meet dietary guidelines. The position operates on a full-time schedule from Sunday to Thursday, with no late nights, allowing for a work-life balance while contributing to the well-being of residents.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals including meat, fish, vegetables, and desserts according to established menus.
  • Ensure meals are palatable, appetizing, and attractive for residents.
  • Comply with meal schedules and dietary guidelines.
  • Follow standard recipes while making independent decisions based on experience.
  • Understand and apply proper food-handling techniques to ensure safety.
  • Estimate food quantities and monitor portion control for individual servings.
  • Prepare foodstuffs by peeling, washing, trimming, and cutting vegetables and fruits.
  • Taste and observe food to ensure conformity with recipes and appearance before serving.
  • Cook food using various methods such as baking, roasting, and steaming, while retaining flavor.
  • Serve food accurately and check each tray for completeness.

Requirements

  • Experience in food preparation and cooking in a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety and proper food handling techniques.
  • Ability to follow recipes and meal schedules accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and presentation of food.
