About the position
The Prepared Foods Assistant Team Leader at Giant Eagle is responsible for providing leadership and support to team members in the prepared foods department. This role focuses on coaching, mentoring, and ensuring high standards of food quality and safety. The Assistant Team Leader will also assist in managing operational expenses and fostering customer relationships to drive business growth.
Responsibilities
- Maintain food quality standards without variation and uphold high standards of food safety and sanitation.
- Supervise prepared food team members to achieve maximum production and efficiency in the absence of the Prep Foods Team Leader/Manager.
- Assist the Prepared Foods Team Leader/Manager in controlling operating expenses and achieving budgeted food and labor costs.
- Manage department team members by writing schedules and work assignments, enforcing company policies.
- Increase profits by supporting in-store ads, sampling, and special events while being aware of competitors in the area.
- Organize and maintain all food storage areas in accordance with health and safety requirements, including labeling, cross-contamination, and temperature control.
- Maintain accurate department records for audits and reviews.
- Analyze Customer Satisfaction Survey and Mystery Shopper reports to identify areas for improvement and coach team members accordingly.
- Ensure proper procedures are followed to meet out-of-stock percentage goals.
- Promote continuous development of team members and identify candidates for the Management Development Program.
- Prepare food for customers by cooking, frying, and grilling, including prep work such as chopping, dicing, and slicing.
- Set up gourmet food cases and maintain displays throughout the day.
- Package, weigh, and display food for the Grab and Go case, checking product dates routinely.
- Engage in suggestive selling and sampling products for customers.
Requirements
- 1 to 3 years of experience in a grocery store environment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Food safety certification required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
