About the position

PIP Marketing, Signs, Print, a local print and sign shop, is currently seeking a self-motivated, independent, reliable individual for the position of Prepress/Graphic Designer. This role is ideal for candidates who have experience with sign and graphics production and are highly motivated, detail-oriented, and hard-working. The Prepress/Graphic Designer will work with a dynamic and interesting client base that includes Museums, Non-Profits, Manufacturing, Real Estate, Car Washes, and Education. The focus is on creating a remarkably unparalleled experience for each customer, utilizing the tools and technologies provided. As part of the production team, the designer will be involved in print output activities and will have the opportunity to improve quality through their keen eye for detail. This position can be part-time or full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime. The designer will work in a systems-based environment that requires high attention to quality, detail, and deadlines. Responsibilities include performing production requirements efficiently, offering graphic design ideas based on customer input, scheduling work to meet customer time frames, operating and maintaining prepress equipment, and providing exceptional customer service. The role also involves monitoring digital files, preflighting for potential problems, and ensuring that all jobs are completed accurately and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform production requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Offer graphic design ideas, solutions, and alternatives based on customer input.
  • Schedule all work to meet customer time frame requirements.
  • Monitor deadlines and report conflicts to management to establish priorities BEFORE the jobs are due.
  • Operate and maintain prepress computer, printer, and other equipment, scanner and RIPs.
  • Become proficient in the current technology for creating graphics, documents, and digital files utilizing existing equipment and materials.
  • Follow-up with customers on all proofs.
  • Monitor system for digital files sent by customers via email or FTP site.
  • Preflight digital files for potential problems.
  • Perform regular computer backup and archive customer files for safekeeping and for easy retrieval.
  • Purge obsolete files.
  • Output digital files per job specifications.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support to assure production work requirements are clearly defined and that timeframes and cost factors are given appropriate consideration.
  • Communicate the status of jobs and any unique circumstances relating to jobs as needed.
  • Provide proof reading and monitor jobs for errors and/or 'common sense' mistakes to eliminate rework.
  • Perform production (copying, printing, laminating, etc.) and delivery of completed job orders.
  • Participate in training activities or other special assignments as requested.
  • Gain a working knowledge of all aspects of digital printing, sign production and installation, and bindery.
  • Learn to operate Design-Rip stations, digital printer, contour cutter, and various finishing devices.
  • Work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Work within a deadline-driven industry.
  • Have incredible attention to detail.
  • Possess the skill-set to work out some technical problems with computers as well as the printers.
  • Communicate with team members to ensure a complete understanding of the order.

Requirements

  • Follow job specifications with an eye for detail and quality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years' education in graphic design preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 months in production type workplace but willing to train.
  • Working knowledge of dual platform applications such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Excel, Canva.
  • Knowledge of PDF and postscript files and PDF plug-ins.
  • A willingness to be proactive and take action.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Team player that can work with others to deliver a project on time.
  • Experience with PrintSmith and PlanProphet.
