About the position
The Preschool Assistant Teacher at Jefferson County Head Start plays a vital role in supporting the lead teacher in delivering high-quality early childhood education to children aged 3-5. This position focuses on creating a safe and engaging classroom environment, implementing positive guidance strategies, and fostering family engagement to enhance children's development. The role is essential for ensuring compliance with Head Start program performance standards and involves collaboration with families and staff to promote the educational growth of children.
Responsibilities
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing early childhood programming.
- Create and maintain a safe classroom environment.
- Implement positive guidance strategies to support children's social and emotional development.
- Ensure healthy and safe practices for children.
- Engage families in the program to support their child's development.
- Assist in planning and implementing parent meetings and special programs.
- Follow guidelines and procedures outlined in the Licensing Rules for Group Day Care Centers.
Requirements
- Valid Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field preferred.
- Experience in teaching preschool is required.
- Successful completion of a background check, TB test, and physical.
Nice-to-haves
- CDA Early Childhood I and II certification.
- Experience working with children ages 3-5.
