About the position

The Preschool I Assistant Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, clean, and stimulating environment for children, ensuring appropriate supervision at all times. This role involves assisting the lead teacher in implementing a culturally diverse curriculum, promoting healthy eating practices, and fostering self-esteem among children. The assistant teacher will also engage with families to support their child's transition from home to classroom, while maintaining a respectful and collaborative relationship with co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate supervision of each child at all times
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and stimulating environment for children
  • Share responsibility for the appearance and décor of the classroom
  • Promote healthy eating practices in accordance with center policies
  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing a curriculum
  • Treat each child, co-worker, and family member with dignity and respect
  • Help each child become aware of their role as an integral member of a group
  • Provide an environment that fosters the development of self-esteem
  • Assist in implementing a curriculum that reflects the cultural diversity of the group
  • Use guidance strategies that reflect the program philosophy and policies
  • Assist in the use of assessment strategies in accordance with program policies
  • View family-teacher relationships as a partnership
  • Support each child's relationship with family members
  • Help each child transition from home to classroom smoothly
  • Communicate with each family based on their communication style
  • Engage in training activities to improve professional practice
  • Interact with co-workers with respect and support
  • Attend all staff meetings and read all materials from the program director
  • Follow all staff policies and procedures outlined in the staff handbook

Requirements

  • Experience/education in Child Development
  • Must meet NAEYC requirements for Assistant Teachers
  • Working on the CDA Credential issued by the Council for Professional Recognition OR 12 Credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or Early Childhood Education
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Exhibit and promote a positive attitude towards children, parents, teachers, and administrative staff

Nice-to-haves

  • High school or equivalent education (Preferred)
  • 1 year of childcare experience (Preferred)
