About the position

The Preschool / Montessori Classroom Substitute Teacher position at Pacific Crest School involves supporting the Primary Program for children aged 2 ½ to 6 years. The role is designed to create a nurturing and engaging Montessori environment that fosters children's natural love for learning and independence. The substitute teacher will be responsible for supervising children, maintaining a clean environment, and supporting children's activities while ensuring their safety and emotional well-being.

Responsibilities

• Supervising children within the Primary Classroom, Aftercare team, or Courtyard to support a group of up to 25 children ages 2 ½ - 6 years old.
• Keeping indoor and outdoor environments clean and appealing under the direction of the classroom teacher or Aftercare Lead.
• Supporting children's independent activity through clear guidance and observation.
• Assisting with outings periodically, especially in the summer.
• Ensuring the physical safety and emotional well-being of the children.
• Modeling integrity, curiosity, joyful work, and respect.

Requirements

• Experience caring for children ages 2 ½ - 6 years old.
• Familiarity with or a desire to learn about Montessori philosophy and practice.
• Excellent communication skills with children, families, and co-workers.
• Gentle but firm classroom management skills with patience and kindness.
• Experience guiding children in activities such as singing, cooking, gardening, arts, and crafts.

Nice-to-haves

• Enrollment in Washington State's MERIT online professional registry.
• Current CPR & First Aid certification.
• Food Handler permit.
• Blood Borne Pathogens training.
• Proof of negative tuberculosis test.
• Proof of MMR vaccine or measles immunity.
• Driver's license.
• 30-hour Child Care Basics training or exemption.
