About the position

The Preschool Teacher Assistant (Level 1) position at Chicanos Por La Causa is designed to support the classroom preschool teacher in planning and implementing educational activities for children aged 3 to 5 years. The assistant will work closely with the teacher to ensure that all activities align with the curriculum guide and the resources provided. This role is crucial in fostering a nurturing and educational environment that adheres to the principles of early childhood development as defined by the program. The assistant will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with children, parents, and staff, ensuring a collaborative and supportive atmosphere in the classroom. In the absence of the lead teacher, the teacher assistant will take on the responsibilities of the teacher, ensuring continuity in the educational experience for the children. The assistant will be supervised directly by the classroom teacher and, on a secondary level, by the Center Manager or Lead Teacher. All activities and interactions must comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the standards and policies set forth by the organization. This position requires a commitment to best practices in early childhood education and a passion for working with young children. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in early childhood education principles and be willing to engage in ongoing professional development. The role is full-time, with a schedule of Monday to Friday, and is located at 1000 McNutt Rd Ste H, Sunland Park, NM 88063. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a health determination, TB skin test, and fingerprint background check prior to employment, ensuring the safety and well-being of the children in their care.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom preschool teacher in planning and implementing activities for children aged 3-5 years.
• Follow the curriculum guide and utilize provided resources and training effectively.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, and staff.
• Assume the routine of the teacher in their absence, ensuring continuity of care and education.
• Ensure all activities and interactions comply with federal, state, and local regulations and best practices.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
• Child Development Associate (CDA) or New Mexico Child Development Certificate, or willingness to work towards these qualifications.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with young children in an early childhood or public school setting.
• First Aid/CPR certification required or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
• Health determination, TB skin test, and fingerprint background check required prior to employment.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual ability in Spanish and English preferred.
• Valid New Mexico driver's license and proof of insurance preferred.
