About the position

The Preschool Teacher at the Assistance League of Los Angeles is responsible for planning, supervising, and implementing an age-appropriate curriculum for children aged 3-5 years. The role focuses on ensuring the development and safety of children while complying with relevant legislation and policies. The teacher will work closely with a team to create a nurturing and educational environment that supports the needs of each child, particularly those from diverse backgrounds and with special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an age-appropriate curriculum that focuses on the needs of each child in accordance with the State Department of Education, Child Development Division, Desired Results and NAEYC standards.
  • Direct activities of the teaching team/teacher's assistants under your supervision.
  • Actively supervise children in your care in the classroom, indoor/outdoor activities, and during nap time.
  • Supervise the use of the restrooms; change wet and/or soiled clothes; change diapers; assist in toilet training.
  • Maintain attendance records indoors, outdoors, and during meals at all times.
  • Set up children's portfolio system for organizing children's observations and forms of evidence and documentation for CDE-DRDP and NAEYC.
  • Maintain records of each child's progress, development, and behavior for periodic reports to parents.
  • Submit a weekly lesson plan based upon Desired Results and NAEYC standards.
  • Provide weekly and monthly schedules of curriculum activities indoor and outdoor based in CDE and NAEYC.
  • Serve Family Style children's meals in accordance with nutritional guidelines following CDE and CACFP regulation, and prepare meals (if necessary).
  • Discuss all concerns regarding children, parents, co-workers or volunteers with the Director of Assistance League Preschool Learning Center.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate curriculum activities which comply with Title 22, Title V, CACFP, CLASS and NAEYC best practices.
  • Attend CDE/CACFP/NAEYC licensing training and meetings as needed.

Requirements

  • AA degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development OR 60 college units with 30+ college units in ECE, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education.
  • Child Development Teacher's Permit or higher required.
  • 3 units in Infant/Toddler Development.
  • Minimum three years of teaching experience in a licensed childcare facility.
  • TB and Health Clearances; current immunizations record.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (current).
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Experience working with children with disabilities and/or special needs.
  • Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are a plus.
