About the position

The Preschool Teacher Long Term Substitute position at Shaker Lane is focused on creating a safe, caring, and ready-to-learn community for students. The ideal candidate will embrace the philosophy of nurturing and collaboration, ensuring that all students feel supported in their learning environment. This role requires the establishment of clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, which must be effectively communicated to students. The teacher will be responsible for planning well-structured lessons that incorporate varied learning experiences tailored to meet the diverse needs of students. In addition to lesson planning, the teacher will guide and counsel students facing adjustment and academic challenges, utilizing strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff. A solid understanding of special education regulations and familiarity with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) is essential, as the teacher will work closely with students with disabilities, particularly within an inclusion model. The role also involves meeting with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, identifying their priorities, and determining necessary resources. Collaboration with colleagues from diverse backgrounds is crucial, particularly in developing pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies that adhere to Universally Designed Learning principles. The teacher will evaluate student progress through report cards and create Student Success Team meeting notes as needed. Additionally, the position requires appropriate DESE licensure and may involve other duties assigned by the building administration.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of special education regulations and familiarity with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Experience in early childhood education, particularly with the inclusion model for students with disabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
