About the position

The Prevention Specialist works under the direction of the Prevention Coordinator in LUK's Community Engagement and Support (CES) Division. This role is pivotal in collaborating with youth, community members, agencies, and coalitions to prevent youth substance use and problem gambling within the community. The Prevention Specialist is responsible for facilitating groups and trainings, building the skills of youth leaders, and supervising these leaders to ensure effective program delivery. This position requires cultivating and maintaining relationships with school personnel, youth-serving agencies, and coalitions in North Central Massachusetts, which is essential for fostering a supportive environment for youth development. In addition to relationship-building, the Prevention Specialist will work closely with CES Prevention staff and partners to develop connections with communities, organizations, youth, parents, and coalitions. The role involves delivering trainings focused on youth substance use and gambling prevention, as well as mental health awareness within the community. The Prevention Specialist will also be responsible for planning educational events and social media campaigns aimed at youth and parents, coordinating various prevention activities as assigned. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people and have a strong commitment to community engagement and support.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with youth, community members, agencies, and coalitions to prevent youth substance use and problem gambling.
  • Facilitate groups and trainings for youth leaders.
  • Build the skills of youth leaders and supervise their activities.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with school personnel and youth-serving agencies.
  • Work closely with CES Prevention staff and partners to develop community relationships.
  • Deliver trainings on youth substance use, gambling prevention, and mental health.
  • Plan educational events and social media campaigns for youth and parents.
  • Coordinate other prevention activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Public Health, Social Work, Education, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in positive youth development, prevention work, coalition building, and/or school systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
