About the position

At Emory Healthcare, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to our patients and their families. We are currently seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our team, who will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care. This position involves performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers, including Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). The Medical Assistant will be responsible for taking vital signs, administering medications as per Emory Clinic policies, conducting simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, and drawing blood. Additionally, the MA will maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean and compliant with safety standards, and assist in emergency situations as directed by healthcare providers. In this role, the Medical Assistant will also engage in administrative duties that support patient and practice operations. This includes checking patients in and out, responding to patient inquiries, reinforcing education for patients and their families, and managing patient records with a focus on confidentiality and accuracy. The MA will be expected to maintain a healthy environment in accordance with Universal Precaution guidelines and will be responsible for ordering and managing unit supplies. All interactions and duties performed will align with Emory Healthcare's patient and family-centered care standards, ensuring that we provide compassionate and effective care to our diverse patient population.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex medical assistant clinical duties including taking vital signs and administering medications.
  • Conduct simple diagnostic tests and collect specimens as required.
  • Draw blood and sterilize equipment to maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist in emergency situations as directed by licensed providers.
  • Perform administrative duties such as patient check-in/out and responding to patient requests.
  • Maintain patients' charts and ensure proper documentation and confidentiality.
  • Order, verify, and store unit supplies as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment in compliance with safety standards.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) is required.
  • Must successfully complete all medical assistant orientation and training requirements including certification and annual skills competency.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
