About the position

The Primary Metallurgical QA Engineer I position at TimkenSteel Corporation is designed to provide expert metallurgical knowledge to oversee the technical aspects of primary steelmaking for bar products and piercing mill billets. This role involves conducting metallurgical testing, ensuring product surface quality, and engaging in continuous improvement projects within manufacturing. The engineer will also represent the metallurgical department during audits and contribute to the development of steelmaking processes that meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop all steelmaking processes that satisfy the metallurgical requirements of customers, including chemistry control and mechanical properties.
• Document manufacturing processes as Metallus business standards and conduct training for associates.
• Chair surface quality team meetings and report to plant management on areas of concern and continuous improvement progress.
• Provide technical support for internal and external audits and participate in new business development opportunities.
• Manage and conduct Lean 6-Sigma cost savings and continuous improvement projects.
• Perform data analysis using statistical techniques to enhance quality improvement, manufacturing efficiency, cost reduction, and on-time delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor Degree in Metallurgy / Materials Science with no experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Masters Degree in Metallurgy / Materials Science with experience in primary steelmaking or fundamental knowledge of melting, refining, casting, and rolling.
