About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at Collins Aerospace is a critical role responsible for electrical hardware design and integration, encompassing a wide range of activities throughout the product development lifecycle. This includes requirements management, component derating, schematic capture, PCB layout oversight, and the design of DC-DC or AC power supplies. The engineer will engage in troubleshooting and support activities during all phases of product development, including qualification and validation testing. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of electrical design principles and the ability to create schematics, operational diagrams, and written descriptions that ensure compliance with electrical design requirements. In this position, the engineer will own the electrical hardware design and all lifecycle activities associated with it. This includes the development of supporting test articles, fixtures, wire harnesses, and representative loads necessary for design, qualification, or production use. The engineer will also be responsible for ensuring product reliability and manufacturability, meeting regulatory and customer specifications, and identifying and mitigating design risks. Participation in design reviews, mentoring team members, and suggesting improvements to products and processes are also key responsibilities. Responsibilities

  • Create schematics and operational diagrams to ensure electrical design meets requirements.
  • Support electrical testing and troubleshooting activities.
  • Own electrical hardware design and all design lifecycle activities.
  • Develop supporting test articles, fixtures, wire harnesses, and representative loads for design and qualification.
  • Participate in and/or chair design reviews, ensuring lessons learned are identified and applied.
  • Mentor and challenge Electrical Engineering team members.
  • Ensure product reliability and manufacturability, meeting regulatory and customer specifications.
  • Identify and mitigate design risks, suggesting improvements to products and processes.
  • Perform conceptual studies, analytical system design, and design calculations.
  • Devise plans for each phase of the project.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or 12 years of relevant experience in absence of a degree.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electrical component obsolescence and alternate parts mitigation.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting DC-DC or AC power supplies, including EMI filtering and management.
  • Familiarity with Altium Design and SVN repositories and clients.
  • Experience with Aerospace products and DO-160 or MIL-STD environmental qualification.
  • Experience with Oxygen Systems or Passenger Service Units (PSUs).
