About the position

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Parks and Recreation, Sports and Learning Complex (SPORTSPLEX) is seeking staff for various positions including Event Services Staff, Outdoor Event Staff, Field House & Stadium Staff, Youth & Community Program Staff, Childcare Aide, Learning Center / Program Facility Manager II, Learning Center / Instructors, Fitness Center Shift Manager, Fitness Center Specialist, Fitness Center Representative, Operations Day-Time Staff, Operations Administrative Support Staff, Operations Night / Weekend Staff, Operations Lead Tradesman, Gymnastics Instructor, Gymnastics Instructor LEVEL TWO, and Gymnastics Instructor LEVEL THREE. These positions are seasonal/part-time and do not include a benefit package. A complete background investigation will be completed prior to hiring, and candidates may be subject to medical, drug, and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Provides guest assistance during special events.
  • Assists in managing ingress/egress at doors and other controlled entry locations.
  • Helps to enforce building safety procedures and assists with compliments and complaints.
  • Directs and gives parking instructions to the public upon arrival.
  • Secures parking areas including locking gates and setting up barricades.
  • Provides excellent customer service and leads activities.
  • Facilitates participation and assists with set up/tear down of venue.
  • Communicates effectively with patrons and other staff.
  • Enforces venue rules/policies/procedures.
  • Provides a safe and fun environment for children ages 24 months to 12 years old.
  • Engages in individual and group activities such as games, arts & crafts, and sports.
  • Assists patrons with A/V equipment and computer usage.
  • Monitors patrons within the venue and Main Hall.
  • Oversees daily operations of the Fitness Center according to shift.
  • Manages front desk operations and ensures customer satisfaction.
  • Supervises all fitness areas and instructs members on proper equipment use.
  • Assists with administrative support including typing, filing, and guiding visitors.
  • Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots mechanical equipment as needed.
  • Provides professional gymnastics instruction to participants.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move about for extended periods.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • General knowledge of cardiovascular and strength training principles.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation & First Aid certifications.
  • High School or GED, some college or trade education in discipline being taught.
  • Minimum 2 years teaching/coaching gymnastics experience for Level Two.
  • Minimum 5 years teaching/coaching gymnastics experience for Level Three.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service roles.
  • Knowledge of Smartlink database programs.
  • Experience in administrative support roles.
  • Professional certificates in applicable trades for Operations Lead Tradesman.
