About the position

The Principal Analyst at NICHQ is responsible for leading and managing clinical research-focused maternal child health projects. This role involves supervising staff, collaborating with various departments, and utilizing advanced research skills to support the organization's mission of improving children's health. The Principal Analyst will oversee data management strategies and harmonize large datasets, contributing to the development of research and evaluation plans.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as project director for clinical research initiatives
  • Oversee implementation of research and evaluation activities
  • Manage reporting and analytics for projects
  • Direct primary data collection efforts for projects
  • Design and lead execution of applied research/evaluation project activities across all phases of project lifespan
  • Supervise and support the development of individuals working in applied research and evaluation
  • Demonstrate subject matter expertise in public health, informatics, and/or biostatistics
  • Contribute to cross project sharing and integration of organizational support functions
  • Drive development of research/evaluation plans and data collection instruments
  • Secure human subjects approval
  • Provide consultation on statistical and qualitative research techniques
  • Oversee development of written summaries using statistical, narrative, and graphic components
  • Lead development of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication
  • Contribute to building organizational capacity and innovative methods in child health.

Requirements

  • Doctoral or master’s degree in relevant field (e.g. public health, health informatics, biostatistics, epidemiology)
  • At least 5 years of work experience in a health services, social science, or clinical research setting
  • At least 2 years of experience with people management
  • Expertise in overseeing and conducting all phases of research projects
  • Experience with NIH-funded clinical research preferred
  • Superb computer skills including Microsoft Office and database management
  • Expert quantitative and/or qualitative research skills
  • Expertise in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS) and qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Dedoose, MAXQDA)
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with varied partners
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience managing and supporting junior staff
  • Excellent communication skills including oral and written presentation and facilitation
  • Creative, strategic thinker who optimizes systems and resources
