About the position

The Principal Application Engineer - PEGA at Hanover Insurance Group is responsible for providing technology-enabled solutions to complex business problems. This role involves designing and building efficient applications that align with business strategies, collaborating with various teams, and ensuring high-quality technical implementations. The position can be performed remotely or from the Worcester, MA headquarters.

Responsibilities

• Provide technology-enabled solutions to address complex business problems.
• Apply technical knowledge and development skills to design and build efficient solutions.
• Work closely with other IT professionals to produce high-quality applications and services.
• Interpret technical designs and create or oversee the creation of technical specifications.
• Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, enhance, and document application components.
• Assist Project Manager in project coordination.
• Provide technical direction for the development team.
• Create and coordinate developer tasks and revise as needed.
• Manage technical risks throughout the project.
• Communicate and enforce coding standards.
• Collaborate with quality assurance to create test plans and ensure issues are resolved.
• Seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
• Keep project managers informed of development status.
• Recognize system deficiencies and implement effective solutions.
• Promote code and support setup of multiple test environments.
• Drive collaboration among project team members, including external and offshore resources.
• Contribute to technical approach and design.
• Provide subject matter expertise to individuals and projects.
• Troubleshoot problems across domains and integration points.
• Drive process improvement efforts.
• Foster an environment that encourages calculated risk-taking.

Requirements

• Proven experience in application engineering and development, particularly with PEGA.
• Strong technical knowledge and capabilities in software design and development.
• Experience in project coordination and managing technical risks.
• Ability to interpret technical designs and create specifications.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with internal and external partners.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with quality assurance processes and test plan creation.
• Familiarity with coding standards and best practices.
