About the position

As a Principal Application Engineer at Discover, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-impact software solutions that are intuitive and efficient. Your expertise will be essential in managing and escalating risks and customer-impacting issues that arise in day-to-day operations. You will be expected to engage deeply with application development, architecture, infrastructure, and engineering teams to ensure thorough test planning, analysis of requirements, and defining success criteria for various projects. Your responsibilities will include providing technical and application support on Connex Switch, constructing and maintaining test environments, and preparing comprehensive test plans and methodologies. You will execute necessary tests on each release, ensuring timely submission of test reports, and clearly presenting these reports and metrics to the project team. Your role will also involve logging issues and following up to ensure fixes are implemented. As a thought leader, you will create technology solutions that address high-impact business priorities, demonstrating your ability to analyze, design, code, test, and deploy solutions with high quality. Your technical expertise will enable you to tackle complex solutions and you will be recognized as a go-to person for many outside your immediate team. In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will participate in strategic technology decisions, understanding their broader impact on Discover. You will proactively identify and mitigate issues based on your intuition and experience across multiple domains, driving problem-solving efforts to determine root causes. Furthermore, you will coach technology communities at Discover in specific technology domains, design-thinking, agile software development practices, security, architecture, and data engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with application development, Architecture, Infrastructure and Engineering teams for test planning, analysis requirement, and for defining success criteria.
  • Provide Technical and Application support on Connex Switch.
  • Construct and maintain test environments.
  • Prepare test plans, test methodologies, and test setups.
  • Execute required tests on each release and submit test reports on time.
  • Prepare and present the test reports and metrics clearly to the project team.
  • Log issues and follow up to get the fix.
  • Create technology solutions addressing high impact business priorities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze, design, code, test and deploy solutions and product features with high quality to production.
  • Participate in strategic technology decisions and understand how these decisions impact Discover as a whole.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate issues based on intuition and experience in multiple domains.
  • Coach technology communities at Discover in areas of specific technology domain, design-thinking, agile software development way of working, security, architecture and/or data engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or related.
  • 6+ years of experience in Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related.
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 6-8 years of working experience with Connex on HPE NonStop and Connex Environment Database.
  • Knowledge on Card Payments and EFT.
  • Familiar with different ISO8583 formats like Visa, MasterCard, NYCE, STAR, EPOC, AFFN, PULSE.
  • Hands-on experience on using Paragon WebFASTest, with the ability to build and configure test scripts and simulate various transactions like ATM, POS, EMV Contact & Contactless and Magstripe.
  • Good to have knowledge and prior experience on ATM, POS and EMV transactions.
  • Familiar with settlements, reports and reconciliation.
