About the position

The Cassandra Architect at Verizon is responsible for managing enterprise-wide Datastax and Open Source Cassandra Database environments. This role supports various applications for both B2C and B2B customers, overseeing the software development life cycle (SDLC) and ensuring the performance, capacity, and security of database systems. The architect will engage in production and development activities, cloud migration, and technology development, while collaborating with development and SRE teams to optimize database performance and design.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Enterprise wide Datastax and Open Source Cassandra Database environments.
  • Support multiple applications including Billing, Rating, Provisioning, and Profile management for B2C and B2B customers.
  • Oversee the SDLC life cycle for multiple applications.
  • Engage in production and development activities, focusing on emerging technology development and security management.
  • Plan for capacity, performance, and availability management, including change management and cloud migration.
  • Review application data models and traffic requirements with development and SRE teams.
  • Identify data model issues and recommend schema design changes and improvements.
  • Design AWS infrastructure for cloud migration and integration with on-premise systems.
  • Conduct systems design, feasibility, and cost studies for cloud solutions.
  • Develop and maintain data models and structures to ensure database integrity and performance.

Requirements

  • Six or more years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Experience as a Cassandra Architect, managing large multi-datacenter Cassandra clusters in production.
  • Proficiency in Spark, Hadoop distribution, and Solr.
  • Experience in implementing enterprise-level data management and analytical solutions such as ODS, EDW, and Data Lake.
  • Knowledge of parallel ETL tools and large-scale system software development.
  • Experience with the entire product life cycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Java, Linux, SQL, and CQL.
  • Experience in Amazon AWS cloud infrastructure, including provisioning and security management.
  • Ability to design and support highly available and scalable distributed Cassandra database solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with developing standardized AMI images and Cloud formation automation scripts for AWS environments.
  • Scripting experience using Python or shell scripts.
  • Familiarity with configuration management and source control systems like Ansible and Git.
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux operating system management.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies.
  • Certifications in Cassandra and/or AWS.
  • Experience with performance tuning of Cassandra clusters.
