About the position

The Principal Architect - Identity and Access Management (IAM) at United Airlines is a senior-level role responsible for designing a modern Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) platform. This position involves collaborating with various teams to integrate identity security throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable systems. The Principal Architect serves as a domain expert, leading the design and implementation of security practices and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Design a modern CIAM platform that delivers secure, reliable, scalable, and performant systems.
• Lead design and documentation of Identity & Access Management platform architecture and roadmap.
• Define and implement security practices and Cybersecurity and Digital Risk standards and policies.
• Evaluate new tools and review proposed application changes related to IAM.
• Contribute to discussions on performance testing, disaster recovery, and planning for a reliable IAM platform.
• Mentor, train, and coach junior members of the IAM team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in cybersecurity and/or IAM.
• Experience with IAM platforms such as ForgeRock, Okta, Ping Identity, Oracle Access Manager, AWS IAM, Azure, CyberArk, SailPoint, etc.
• Strong understanding of IAM principles including authentication, authorization, and user lifecycle management.
• In-depth knowledge of technologies like SAML, OAuth/OAuth2, OpenID Connect, MFA mechanisms, SSO, and data encryption.
• Proven ability to lead projects in the design and implementation of scalable IAM architectures.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience with IAM.
• Certifications such as CISM, CISSP, etc.
• Experience with threat modeling, secure coding, and cryptography.
• Expertise in modern software lifecycle development and automated cloud infrastructure deployment.
• Knowledge of fraud prevention and detection technologies.
