About the position

As a Principal Associate, Instructional Designer at Capital One, you will play a pivotal role in reimagining the learning experience for a diverse group of associates. This position is not just about creating training materials; it's about crafting engaging, digital-first learning experiences that resonate with our hyper-digital, customer-centric workforce. You will be responsible for designing and developing a wide array of learning materials that support various lines of business, ensuring that each piece is tailored to meet specific learning needs and business objectives. Your creativity and expertise will be essential in translating complex business intents into engaging and effective learning solutions. In this role, you will analyze learning needs and develop blended learning solutions from raw materials, measuring and reporting on the effectiveness of these solutions. You will script videos, storyboard e-Learning courses, structure simulations, and create digital games, all while focusing on delivering memorable and impactful learning experiences. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with other Instructional Designers to streamline processes, share best practices, and stay updated on emerging trends in evidence-based learning. Your understanding of adult learning theory and cognitive science will guide your design choices, ensuring that the learning experiences you create are not only effective but also engaging and enjoyable for the learners. You will also be responsible for leading stakeholder interviews, determining instructional standards, and representing the Learning team in broader project efforts. Your ability to balance learning best practices with business needs will be crucial as you design training solutions that leverage current learning trends, including gamification and rich media. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about enhancing the associate experience through innovative learning design and who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Increase the effectiveness of learning solutions by identifying and recommending formats and modalities that create an optimal learning experience.
  • Design and develop curriculum, programs, learning materials, and performance support tools from a blank slate based on industry design standards.
  • Design content, including measurable learning objectives, leader and participant materials, experiential scenarios, and assessment questions.
  • Decrease required development time through proficient use of Articulate Storyline for eLearning development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and agility with new learning technologies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Design training solutions that demonstrate an understanding of adult learning principles and leverage current learning trends.
  • Lead effective stakeholder, subject matter expert, and learner interviews to curate relevant content.
  • Determine, recommend, and document project instructional standards and strategies.
  • Represent Learning in broader project efforts, ensuring alignment with project timeline goals.
  • Engage with project team members to ensure clarity of goals and conduct ongoing reviews.
  • Participate in Train-the-Trainer activities when applicable.
  • Assist Learning Manager by identifying issues, generating alternative solutions, and analyzing opportunities.
  • Create behaviorally-based assessments and evaluation methods.
  • Consult with senior leaders on performance improvement and learning strategy.
  • Set and achieve challenging individual goals that support department and business goals.
  • Predict resources needed to reach learning objectives and manage them effectively.
  • Provide project updates to stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  • Proficient use of multiple rapid development content tools to create online courseware.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification.
  • At least 4 years of experience in Instructional Design.
  • At least 4 years of experience with learning content development tools (Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Design Suite, and Camtasia).

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 5 years of Training Design and Development for digital modalities.
  • At least one year of experience in UI/UX and graphic design.
  • At least 2 years of experience with mobile content creation, curation, and delivery.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and video editing software).
  • Project Management Professional Certification or knowledge of Agile methodology.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite.
