About the position

The Principal Associate, UX Designer at Capital One is responsible for advocating for user needs and delivering innovative digital experiences that enhance customers' financial activities. This role involves collaboration with various teams to translate complex ideas into user-friendly designs, utilizing human-centered design methods, and participating in the hiring process. The position emphasizes a culture of collaboration, diversity, and continuous learning within the design team.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technology, product, and business teams to uncover customer and business needs and translate them into engaging digital experiences.
  • Participate in translating complex ideas into understandable concepts that enhance the product experience.
  • Advocate for the customer through human-centered design methods, including discovery, research, whiteboarding sessions, and user testing.
  • Champion prioritization of design-centered product enhancements grounded in research and analysis.
  • Connect with design community peers by learning, sharing, and teaching.
  • Participate in hiring by reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and attending consensus.
  • Support early product definition by participating in discovery sessions that uncover customer pain points and opportunities.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with design tools to deliver concepts and enable successful collaboration across teams.
  • Participate in end-to-end product design, including creating process and user flows, wireframes, journey maps, and interaction models.
  • Design within existing and create new standards to contribute to the internal design system, best practices, and guidelines.
  • Support effective storytelling and presentation of visual concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Create high-fidelity design assets for acceptance, development, and delivery to market in partnership with technology colleagues.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience with user experience design and user experience research.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience.
  • Advanced degree, trainings, or certifications in User Interface design.
  • Experience designing for cross-channel experiences.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of business partners and delivering outcomes.
  • Familiarity with design and prototyping tools, such as Sketch and/or Figma.
