About the position

The Principal Budget Analyst is responsible for performing complex financial management tasks, including cost analysis, budget formulation, tracking, and reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of government budget processes and the ability to analyze and recommend the best use of funds while ensuring compliance with budgetary policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cost analysis, budget formulation, tracking, and reporting related to financial management support tasks.
  • Analyze and compare budgets and program actions to recommend optimal fund usage.
  • Ensure budget forecasts, estimates, and submissions conform to requirements and financial objectives.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis, depreciation, and identify trends in fund usage.
  • Develop project schedules and budgets, manage resources, and coordinate efforts of diverse service providers.
  • Gather data, compile information, and prepare reports and briefings.
  • Monitor and execute funding documents, including inter-agency agreements and purchase requests.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Eight years of budgeting and financial management experience.
  • Experience with government budget processes and life cycles, including knowledge of various types of funds.
  • Knowledge of Congressional and OMB budget processes, procedures, and requirements.
  • Strong analytical and policy analysis skills.
  • Experience with data warehousing, extraction, and integration methodologies in medium-large scale computing environments.
  • Knowledge of Federal accounting processes for reconciliations and financial data analysis.
  • Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in monitoring and executing funding documents.
  • Superior skills with Microsoft Office Programs (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
