About the position

The Principal Business Risk Control Specialist at Discover Financial Services is responsible for identifying and managing risks within the Marketing organization. This role involves collaborating with various departments, including Legal and Compliance, to ensure adherence to regulations and effective risk management strategies. The specialist will oversee compliance and operational risk activities, develop training programs, and evaluate current operations to enhance risk management processes.

Responsibilities

• Identify risks in the Marketing universe and drive strategies to manage them.
• Liaison with enterprise-wide Legal, Compliance, and Corporate Risk functions.
• Develop business-unit specific approaches for risk management.
• Direct business compliance and operational risk/control activities within marketing.
• Conduct risk assessments, controls, procedure documentation, and process design.
• Provide education and training for business partners on compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor the risk and control environment for weaknesses and identify solutions.
• Manage independent post-launch oversight of initiatives and report results to management.
• Oversee timely completion of control design reviews and compliance risk assessments.
• Manage timely, accurate creation and distribution of risk reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Marketing, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in financial services, Marketing, Compliance, Internal Audit Operations, or Vendor Management.
• In lieu of education, 10+ years of relevant experience.

Nice-to-haves

• 8+ years of experience in financial services, Marketing, Compliance, Internal Audit Operations, or Vendor Management.
• 2+ years of experience in people management.
