About the position

The Principal Business Systems Analyst at PSEG is responsible for aligning business systems with user needs, documenting requirements, and implementing strategies to achieve business goals. This role involves working closely with business functions to ensure customer satisfaction, optimizing integration, and contributing to the strategic direction of the IT organization. The position requires a deep understanding of business processes and technology enablement, as well as the ability to manage projects from inception to successful implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Own functional specifications and serve as a functional expert with a deep understanding of business needs on product capabilities.
  • Define business requirements, perform quality assurance, and define reporting and alerting requirements.
  • Develop day-to-day relationships with business partners to optimize and enhance integration.
  • Work on analytical projects including continuous improvement, data extraction, and performance metrics analysis.
  • Align and support the strategic direction of the broader IT organization.
  • Facilitate external benchmarking and best practice efforts with other business organizations.
  • Allocate staff and budget resources to meet changing business needs.
  • Stay informed of technical and managerial advances in IT and lead the introduction of best practices.
  • Collaborate with Finance to define cost allocation and pricing plans for products.
  • Oversee compliance with cost, schedule, and budget, analyzing performance dashboards to measure outcomes.
  • Develop reporting and dashboards to provide portfolio visibility to business management.
  • Formulate project plans, schedules, and budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Information Technology, Business Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience within the information technology field or an industry with reliance on technical expertise.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other data management tools.
  • Experience in process documentation and process redesign.
  • Technology procurement and financial operations experience ensuring vendor contracts support business needs.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities through projects or work planning experiences.
  • Broad knowledge of business functions and applications, and of system and technology alternatives.
  • Ability to manage projects from inception to successful implementation.
  • Strong verbal communication, written, detail-oriented, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to foster working relationships with team members, IT management, and client departments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of basic financial principles including experience with project financial budgeting and planning.
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP).
  • Graduate degree or MBA.
  • Experience with CMMI.
