About the position

The Principal Chemical Engineer at Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) will lead technology development activities to support tank farm projects and waste treatment processes. This role involves providing technical direction, managing technology maturation activities, and acting as a subject matter expert in interactions with external research bodies. The engineer will work on innovative solutions to enhance the efficiency of waste management at the Hanford Site, coordinating with various stakeholders and managing subcontractor performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and programmatic direction for technology development activities.
  • Advise DOE and WRPS senior management on waste management strategies.
  • Coordinate technical aspects with internal and external organizations.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget for subcontracts with national laboratories and other technology providers.
  • Conceive, develop, and manage technology development programs using EVMS principles.
  • Develop technical solutions to enhance the efficiency of the RPP mission.
  • Interface with WRPS senior management, DOE, national labs, and universities.
  • Perform technology assessments and evaluations.
  • Identify and manage technology and research providers.
  • Lead technical oversight of subcontractor performance and deliverables.
  • Negotiate targets for subcontractors and perform technical reviews of deliverables.
  • Participate in issue resolution teams to mitigate mission risk.
  • Develop and present mission enhancement proposals to management.
  • Mentor engineers and technical staff to enhance organizational capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Ten (10) years of related experience for Grade 20.
  • Twelve (12) years of related experience for Grade 21.
  • Fifteen (15) years of related experience for Grade 22.

Nice-to-haves

  • An advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in technology evaluations and cost/benefit studies.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or technology deployment.
  • Familiarity with DOE projects and Hanford Tank Farms.
  • Knowledge of basic unit operations supporting waste treatment.
  • Proven experience in technology development and deployment.
