About the position

The Principal Civil Structural Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Civil, Structural and Architectural (CS&A) team, focusing on the design and oversight of reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry structures for nuclear decommissioning and new build projects. This position offers hybrid working arrangements and involves working on a variety of projects across the UK and internationally, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards while providing technical leadership and expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering Nuclear design work, inspections and construction site support on projects for a range of public and private sector clients within the UK and overseas.
  • Conducting concept and feasibility studies for complex multi-discipline design projects.
  • Overseeing, verifying, and leading analysis and design using engineering software such as Tekla Structural Designer and Robot, as well as hand calculations.
  • Preparing calculations, CDM activities, Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Scopes of Work, Technical Reports, and ensuring inter-discipline design coordination and supervision.
  • Preparing bid documentation and task estimates.
  • Working with integrated multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-profile projects.
  • Providing technical support to other team members.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out with a positive attitude toward safety, both in design and in the office environment.
  • Managing project delivery and assisting in mentoring team members to promote their technical and professional development.

Requirements

  • Degree Qualified (BEng or MEng) in Civil / Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with membership of ICE or IStructE.
  • Significant experience in the design of structures in reinforced concrete and steelwork.
  • Awareness and experience of using the latest design codes and standards.
  • Understanding of the relevant legal and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to gain BPSS security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience within the nuclear industry and design for seismic loading.
