About the position

The Principal Cloud Engineer at MetLife Legal Plans, Inc. is responsible for architecting and building reliable, secure, and cost-effective solutions in AWS. This role involves managing a team of technical experts across various domains, ensuring adherence to modern standards of availability and security, and driving automation throughout the software development lifecycle. The position requires a strong focus on migrating legacy systems to cloud platforms and building modern web applications using microservices.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build reliable, secure, and cost-effective solutions in AWS.
  • Manage a team of technical experts across DevOps, site reliability, QA, and cloud security.
  • Lead the organization toward a complete state of infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform and Terraform Cloud.
  • Ensure adherence to modern standards of availability and fault tolerance in the tech stack.
  • Identify areas of improvement with existing solutions and lead the implementation of new projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering best practices for building and scaling cloud-native applications.
  • Drive automation throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Migrate legacy systems from on-premise infrastructure to cloud platforms.
  • Build modern web applications using microservices, including ReactJS, Django, Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker, Git, and Linux.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field (foreign education equivalent accepted) plus five (5) years of experience in cloud architecture, systems engineering, virtualization, serverless computing, networking, storage, security, DevOps, DevSecOps, and system administration.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field (foreign education equivalent accepted) plus three (3) years of experience in the same areas.
  • Experience in architecting and designing AWS solutions for customer-facing applications.
  • Proficiency in writing Terraform or other infrastructure as code scripts.
  • Experience in building modern web applications using microservices.
  • Experience in migrating workloads from on-premise to AWS.
  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification.
  • AWS DevOps Engineer Professional certification.
