About the position

SAIC is seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer to join its Engineering Team, focusing on solving engineering challenges across multiple cloud environments. This role involves architecture, engineering, and deployment of USSF Cloud Initiatives aimed at enhancing performance and user experience. The position supports the USSF Operational C2 Mission and requires collaboration with a high-performing team of cloud engineering professionals.

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing system architecture and recommend secure design changes for multiple classified cloud environments.
• Develop scripts and workflows for automated deployment of infrastructure, platforms, and applications.
• Generate design documents, best practice configurations, and test procedures.
• Execute testing to validate system performance according to the developed test plan and criteria.
• Support KM Cloud Architect with Architecture Change Management engineering decisions.
• Recommend improvements to existing architecture and processes to reduce repetitive tasks in favor of automation.
• Provide subject matter expertise on on-premises, hybrid, and public cloud toolsets and best practices.
• Configure and troubleshoot cloud, virtual, and physical hardware and software systems.

Requirements

• Minimum of nine (9) years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or seven (7) years' experience in an IT related field with a Master's degree.
• At least three (3) years of experience in AWS environment development and/or engineering.
• At least three (3) years of experience in Azure environment development and/or engineering.
• At least three (3) years of experience in a VMware environment development and/or engineering.
• Demonstrated experience with Networking, VPNs, IaaS, PaaS, SQL, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, Jira, Confluence, Artifactory, and VDI.
• Knowledge of and experience working with DevSecOps tool chains.
• Experience preparing technical documentation.
• Experience working in a team environment with the ability to mentor junior team members.
• Experience with containerization tools such as Kubernetes.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with other cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OCI).
• Zero trust architectures.
• Experience with automation tools including Ansible and Terraform.
• TS+ Cloud or Platform 1 development, engineering, operations and sustainment.
• In-depth understanding of Networking, VPNs, IaaS, PaaS, SQL, storage, Active Directory, F5, Barracuda.
