About the position

The Principal Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Engineer at Five9 is responsible for leading the design, development, deployment, and support of an automation framework that enables Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) capabilities across public and private clouds. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to create scalable solutions, standardizing deployment models, and driving innovation in cloud infrastructure. The engineer will also focus on enhancing system reliability, optimizing costs, and ensuring security and compliance within cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy robust cloud infrastructure and container solutions using OpenStack, GCP, AWS, Kubernetes, Rancher and/or OpenShift.
  • Lead the creation of an automation framework to streamline IaaS provisioning and configuration across multi-cloud environments.
  • Partner with internal and external teams to convert infrastructure architectures into automated, scalable solutions.
  • Implement observability, monitoring, and SRE principles to enhance system reliability and performance.
  • Apply FinOps practices to monitor and optimize cloud resource usage.
  • Lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering best practices in cloud engineering, SRE, and automation.
  • Drive the implementation of security best practices within cloud infrastructure.
  • Design and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Lead strategy toward continuous monitoring and performance tuning of cloud systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience and relevant industry certifications will also be considered.
  • 10+ years in IT, with extensive experience in cloud engineering, automation, and containerization.
  • Expertise in multi-cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, OpenStack) and container environments (Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher, GCP Anthos).
  • Proficient in Linux (e.g., Ubuntu), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, Python, and Go).
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, networking, and SRE principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in FinOps and cost-optimization strategies.
  • Background in regulated industries (e.g., finance, healthcare).
