About the position

The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a motivated, energetic Principal Communications Network Manager / Engineer to support the Navy in the development and application of cutting-edge high-performance computing (HPC) software and network architectures. This contingent position, expected to start late summer or early fall 2024, will support the Office of Naval Research and the Naval Research Laboratory on-site in the National Capital Region, from ARA facilities, and via telecommuting when approved. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining HPC high-speed communication networks and IP infrastructure. Additionally, the role involves analyzing existing HPC communication networks and making recommendations for upgrades, presenting findings to senior Government officials. This position is critical in ensuring that the Navy's communication networks are efficient, reliable, and capable of supporting advanced computing needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, test, and maintain HPC high-speed communication networks and IP infrastructure.
  • Analyze existing HPC communication networks and make recommendations for upgrades.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior Government officials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 12 - 15 years of recent and relevant work experience in HPC network communications.
  • DoD TOP SECRET clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Experience in the design, build, and deployment of IP infrastructure and related telecommunications products and technology.
  • Experience with Radius and Kerberos.
  • Strong Linux experience.
  • Experience with Layer 2 protocols such as Ethernet and virtual local area networks.

Nice-to-haves

  • 20+ years of experience in relevant fields.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working with/for DoD Service laboratories.
