About the position

The Principal Computer Vision Engineer position is a pivotal role that involves conducting applied research in the fields of computer vision and machine learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting software and hardware platforms that facilitate automated image and video processing, exploitation, and understanding. This role requires a deep understanding of the technical requirements and the ability to interact effectively with sponsors, customers, and users to gather and comprehend their needs and requirements. Additionally, the engineer will assist in the preparation of proposal and reporting materials, ensuring that all documentation meets the high standards expected in this field. In this position, the engineer will leverage their expertise to drive innovation and contribute to early product development that leads to field deployment. The role demands a self-starter who can conduct high-level research and development with minimal supervision. The ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing, is essential for success in this position. The company also offers some flexibility with telecommuting options, allowing for a balanced work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied research in computer vision and machine learning.
  • Develop, enhance, and support software/hardware platforms for automated image/video processing, exploitation, and understanding.
  • Interact with sponsors, customers, and users to understand needs and requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposal and reporting materials.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Significant research experience in computer vision, with an emphasis on object tracking and recognition preferred.
  • Significant practical experience in machine learning using Python scientific computing and modern machine learning frameworks such as numpy, scikit, scipy, Tensorflow, Keras, etc.
  • Willingness to apply for a Department of Defense Secret Clearance, requiring US citizenship.
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical concepts by spoken and written means.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Software development experience in C/C++.
  • Experience with OpenCV.
  • Experience with GPU acceleration using CUDA.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, multi-developer environment.
  • Background working with camera sensors.
  • Active DOD Secret clearance.
