About the position

The Principal Contracts Administrator role at BAE Systems involves managing complex contracts and proposals within the Ordnance Systems Contracts team. This position supports the execution of contract management responsibilities across a diverse portfolio, including government and commercial contracts. The role emphasizes building strong customer relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with regulations while fostering employee growth and development through various training and mentoring opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage moderately complex or complex proposals, contracts, purchase orders, OTAs, and business agreements.
  • Analyze solicitations and prepare summaries based on the analysis, focusing on financial and business risks.
  • Participate in proposal team meetings and prepare terms & conditions for proposals.
  • Review technical and pricing proposals for accuracy and consistency, and prepare proposal documents for submission.
  • Coordinate with other company functions to ensure appropriate reviews are conducted and obtain necessary approvals before submission.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Provide analysis of solicitations to maximize contract award opportunities while minimizing liabilities and risks.
  • Establish and manage negotiation strategies and financial requirements, conducting negotiations requiring high expertise.
  • Prepare contract summaries and report on contract activity to management, providing recommendations for action.
  • Advise and counsel senior management on contractual and business matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience in major defense acquisition and commercial contracting.
  • Highly developed critical thinking and communication skills with the ability to influence business outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, team-building, and leadership skills.
  • Strong writing skills for clear and concise reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to manage organizational and contractual change.
  • Experience with cost type and fixed price contracts.
  • Functional knowledge of FAR/DFARS and commercial contracting methods.
  • Experience with complex contracts and proposal preparation.
  • Ability to interact professionally at all organizational levels.
  • Strong business acumen and experience in risk management.
