About the position

The Principal Group Leader at MITRE will play a crucial role in managing staff and ensuring effective mission support for sponsors within the Operational Engineering Department. This position involves engaging with sponsors, overseeing technical quality and execution, and developing innovative engineering solutions to address complex challenges in cybersecurity and operational technology. The role requires a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and strategic thinking to enhance the capabilities of the MITRE intelligence workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as direct supervisor for 6-8 staff, providing technical support and conducting performance and development conversations.
  • Mentor, advocate for, and recognize staff while communicating with Project/Task Leaders on staff performance.
  • Engage with sponsors to ensure mission needs are met.
  • Assist the Department Manager in workforce shaping, hiring, and work program development.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technical issues and opportunities.
  • Apply interdisciplinary competencies in secure systems architecture, security operations, and risk assessment to business challenges.
  • Identify and create cyber solutions using broad cyber expertise in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Develop innovative offerings and identify opportunities for cyber capabilities.
  • Lead complex cyber engineering and solutioning projects at the enterprise level.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience with a Bachelor's degree, 6 years with a Master's degree, or 3 years with a Ph.D., or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of experience building new IT capabilities and prototypes, including cloud-based environments.
  • Previous work as a cybersecurity engineer is required.
  • Excellent critical and strategic thinking abilities, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create win-win solutions with a positive attitude.
  • 2+ years at MITRE with an established personal network.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Intelligence Community, particularly in counterintelligence and security domains.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering detailed cybersecurity analyses and recommendations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience advising the federal government on ongoing operations and engineered solutions.
  • Experience working with the Special Operations Community.
  • Proven track record in managing staff to meet sponsor needs.
  • Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK and ATLAS Framework.
