About the position

The Principal Cyber Systems Engineer/Senior Principal Cyber Systems role at Northrop Grumman involves leading the cybersecurity efforts for the JTAGS program, ensuring the robust cybersecurity posture of classified systems and networks. This position combines program leadership responsibilities with hands-on technical work, requiring collaboration with cross-functional teams and direct engagement with program management. The role is critical in maintaining compliance with cybersecurity requirements and involves managing a team of cyber engineers and analysts to achieve quality outcomes for the program.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of cyber engineers and analysts to ensure on-schedule, on-budget completion of cybersecurity efforts.
  • Participate in cross-functional team coordination meetings, including program management status and daily technical scrum meetings.
  • Collaborate with other IPT leads and program leadership to meet cybersecurity requirements.
  • Develop and maintain cybersecurity team standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documentation.
  • Delegate responsibilities and maintain accountability among team members.
  • Evaluate and onboard new cybersecurity team members.
  • Manage and deliver the system Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M).
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and compliance audits of systems and networks.
  • Conduct quarterly IA/cybersecurity patching and develop patch lists.
  • Select DISA STIGs and harden systems accordingly.
  • Sustain the system's Trellix endpoint security solutions products.
  • Develop and verify system requirements derived from SP800-53 security controls.
  • Support system design changes while maintaining cybersecurity compliance.
  • Lead security impact assessments prior to system modifications.
  • Maintain ongoing Authority to Operate (ATO) accreditation for all systems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of the system baseline with other technical IPTs.
  • Identify, assess, and handle risks impacting program performance.
  • Participate in future proposal work for cybersecurity activities.

Requirements

  • 5 years relevant cybersecurity experience with a Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or related STEM field, or 3 years relevant experience with a Master's degree; 4 years of additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree for Principal Cyber Systems Engineer.
  • 9 years relevant cybersecurity experience with a Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or related STEM field, or 7 years relevant experience with a Master's degree; 4 years of additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree for Senior Principal Cyber Systems Engineer.
  • Active IAT Level II (CompTIA Security+) certification.
  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in RHEL OS command line and/or Windows PowerShell.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of security risks & strategies, SIEM, antivirus, proxies, firewalls, and intrusion detection concepts for Principal Cyber Systems Engineer.
  • Advanced knowledge of security risks & strategies, SIEM, antivirus, proxies, firewalls, and intrusion detection concepts for Senior Principal Cyber Systems Engineer.
  • Experience in team leadership or management of individual contributors.
  • Experience with gaining and/or maintaining ATO accreditation.
  • Experience developing Ports, Protocols, and Services Matrix (PPSM).
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and principles.
  • Experience with satellite communications ground systems and/or missile warning systems.
  • Working knowledge and/or experience with JIRA for task assignment and status tracking.
