About the position

The Principal Cybersecurity Engineer - Cyber Defense role at Workday is focused on supporting U.S. Federal Government contracts by ensuring cybersecurity in air-gapped classified cloud environments. This position involves leading cybersecurity functions such as vulnerability management, incident response, threat hunting, and threat detection, while collaborating with customers and internal teams to develop best practices and maintain security across environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support cybersecurity functions for U.S. Federal Government contracts.
  • Lead vulnerability management, incident response, threat hunting, and threat detection efforts.
  • Collaborate with customers and Cyber Defense teams to ensure security consistency across environments.
  • Develop and implement best practices for cybersecurity in air-gapped networks.
  • Manage and prioritize vulnerability scans and actions for system owners.
  • Build and maintain investigation and response tools.

Requirements

  • TS/SCI with CI polygraph security clearance is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in technical security consultancy, security operations, response, vulnerability management, threat detection, or threat hunting.
  • 2+ years of hands-on technical leadership experience.
  • Experience deploying, monitoring, and managing systems in AWS or Microsoft Top Secret clouds.
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent job experience.
  • Strong understanding of platform, application, and cloud security fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with containerized applications and their security considerations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adversary TTPs (Tactics, Techniques and Procedures).
  • Deep understanding of network and application security threats, attack techniques, and mitigation options.
  • Experience with SIEM and SOAR security technologies and solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to drive multiple projects and priorities while managing operational responsibilities.
  • Experience with hunting techniques.
