About the position

Our client is seeking a Principal Data Architect for a 3 to 9-month contract to hire hybrid opportunity in The Bronx. The Principal Data Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the client’s data architecture and data management strategy and applications. This position ensures the efficient and effective use of data resources across the institution, supporting academic, research, and administrative functions. The Principal Data Architect will lead the development of data models, data warehousing solutions, predictive models, and integration strategies while ensuring data governance, quality, and security standards are met. The role involves developing and maintaining the client’s data architecture strategy, which includes data models, data integrations, predictive analytics, and data warehousing solutions. The Principal Data Architect will document and visualize data pipelines from source to destination, illustrating data flow through the client’s assets. Collaboration with academic, research, and administrative units is essential to understand data needs and design appropriate analytics solutions. The architect will oversee the implementation of data management tools and technologies, ensuring alignment with the client’s overall IT strategy and compliance with relevant regulations. As a critical liaison between IT and various client departments, the Principal Data Architect will facilitate communication and collaboration to address data-related challenges and opportunities. The role also involves driving innovation in data management practices and technologies to enhance the client’s data capabilities and support its strategic goals. Ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and security in all analytics activities is a key responsibility, along with effectively communicating complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains the client’s data architecture strategy, including data models, data integrations, predictive analytics, and data warehousing solutions.
  • Documents and visualizes data pipelines from source to destination, illustrating data flow through client’s assets.
  • Collaborates with academic, research, and administrative units to understand data needs and design appropriate analytics solutions.
  • Oversees the implementation of data management tools and technologies, ensuring alignment with the client’s overall IT strategy and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Acts as a critical liaison between IT and various client’s departments, facilitating communication and collaboration to address data-related challenges and opportunities.
  • Drives innovation in data management practices and technologies to enhance the client’s data capabilities and support its strategic goals.
  • Ensures data accuracy, integrity, and security in all analytics activities.
  • Communicates complex data insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contributes to evaluating and making recommendations on resource requirements on projects.
  • Provides work direction/coaching to team members.
  • Develops hypothesis and identifies data needed to evaluate.
  • Communicates status, progress, and impact to management.
  • Resolves issues promptly.
  • Reviews the team’s work for quality and thoroughness.
  • Demonstrates understanding of complex transactions and related configuration options.
  • Develops implementation plans for specific components of the strategy (i.e., work plan, transitional architecture plans).
  • Manages code development within a sub-team and/or develops complex modules.
  • Leads execution of testing plans and scripts.
  • Displays awareness of technology tool trends and potential applicability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or in lieu of a degree, 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • General familiarity with retrieving and posting data to APIs via Curl or programmatically.
  • Proficiency in SQL programming with a strong background in data analytics, including the ability to extract, analyze, and interpret complex datasets.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory or similar ELT/ETL tools.
  • Knowledge of a programming language such as Python.
  • Expertise in predictive analytics and statistical methods to forecast future trends and behaviors.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of business, academic, or other technology and technology support services.
  • Experience with Higher Education ERP and Data Solutions.
  • Experience with CRM data and an understanding of customer/student metrics.
