About the position

The Principal Data Architect I is responsible for architecting and leading data engineering functions, which encompass a wide range of activities including data extraction, transformation, loading, and integration. This role supports the enterprise data infrastructures, data warehouse, operational data stores, and master data management. The Principal Data Architect will be involved in architecting innovative solutions and will serve as a subject matter expert for multiple programs and systems. In this position, the individual will actively and consistently support efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience. They will lead the implementation of data services and data movement infrastructures, architect data structures and models, and oversee the implementation of programming concepts such as data structures, error handling, data manipulation, and I/O processing. The role also involves redesigning jobs based on failures, ensuring robust error handling and data manipulation practices. The Principal Data Architect will design, implement, monitor, enhance, and troubleshoot requirements and architecture specifications of data warehousing systems and processing infrastructure. They will lead the Insights team in designing, implementing, and supporting end-to-end data solutions across various platforms, environments, domains, and locations. Additionally, they will architect the development of ETL processes and solutions according to established standards, monitor and administer automated and manual data integration and ETL jobs, and mentor junior developers and external partners to resolve data integration issues effectively. This role requires diagnosing complex issues and recommending the best resolutions while influencing the overall data insights program and ensuring quality results for the data development team. The Principal Data Architect will also ensure alignment to drive consistency and global solutions across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Insights team to design, implement, and support end-to-end data solutions across multiple platforms, environments, domains, and locations.
  • Architect development of ETL processes, programs, and solutions as per established standards.
  • Monitor and administer automated and manual data integration and ETL jobs to verify execution and measure performance.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers, vendors, consultants, and external partners to quickly identify and resolve data integration and ETL job issues.
  • Diagnose highly complex issues and evaluate, recommend, and execute the best resolution.
  • Influence the overall data insights program.
  • Deliver quality results to the data development team.
  • Ensure alignment to drive consistency and global solutions.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Extensive experience with building use cases and providing development support to data scientists
  • Extensive experience with building use cases and providing development support to data engineers
  • Extensive experience with data lake - all data sources - building out data sets for use cases
  • Extensive experience with building SQL/HIVE databases and tables
  • Extensive experience with querying and designing efficient warehousing structures
  • Extensive knowledge of data access methods from relational databases using SQL
  • Extensive knowledge of and hands-on with web services (WSDL Soap, Restful) to access data from various source systems
  • Extensive knowledge of FTP/sFTP
  • Extensive experience with designing or architecting for highly complex ETL processing and warehousing
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective analytical and troubleshooting abilities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • ETL experience - 8+ years
  • Experience with SQL, Shell Script, Python, JSON - 6+ years
  • Data integration experience - 5 years
  • Data visualization experience (Tableau, Alteryx, Microstrategy) - 5 years
  • Software engineering experience - 5 years
