About the position

In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and managing data sources that are essential for business operations. This requires a deep understanding of the functional business domain, including the categories of data and where it is stored, as well as the business data requirements. You will need to be familiar with various database technologies and distributed data stores, such as SQL and NoSQL, and ensure data quality by performing initial checks on extracted data. Your role will also involve reviewing the deliverables of junior associates and providing guidance on data sources and quality. You will work on data architecture, which includes knowledge of data ecosystems and integration blueprints. This encompasses transactional database systems, data warehouses, business intelligence, and analytics systems. You will be expected to design data schemes, object models, and flow diagrams to structure, store, process, and integrate data. Additionally, you will assist with data planning, sourcing, collection, and transformation, and help maintain the integrity and security of the database. Your responsibilities will also include data modeling, where you will utilize various techniques and tools to build complex logical and conceptual models. You will create and maintain critical data documentation and metadata, ensuring that data is understood and leveraged as a shared asset. Furthermore, you will engage with business stakeholders to evaluate proposed business cases for projects and initiatives, translating business requirements into actionable strategies. In terms of data governance, you will establish and document data governance strategies and initiatives, guiding business leaders on regulatory and ethical requirements around data. You will also be involved in data quality management, developing strategies and metrics to ensure data is fit for purpose. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying and resolving business problems through effective technology-focused solutions, while also promoting a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and define suitable data sources that are fit for purpose.
  • Perform initial data quality checks on extracted data.
  • Review deliverables of junior associates and provide guidance on data source and quality.
  • Design data schemes, object models, and flow diagrams for data structuring and integration.
  • Assist with data planning, sourcing, collection, and transformation.
  • Maintain the integrity and security of the database.
  • Build complex logical and conceptual models and provide guidance on physical data models.
  • Create and maintain critical data documentation and metadata.
  • Evaluate proposed business cases for projects and initiatives.
  • Establish and document data governance strategies and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement operational Data Quality Management (DQM) procedures.
  • Lead data quality initiatives to enhance business performance and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 5 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, or related field.
  • 7 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, or related field.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Relevant industry experience in retail, supply chain, eCommerce, or healthcare.
  • Experience in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
