About the position

The Principal Data Engineer at Visa is a leadership role focused on building and growing a world-class team of data engineers. This position involves developing end-to-end technical solutions for data-related initiatives, fostering innovation, and collaborating with various teams across the organization. The role emphasizes a data-driven approach and requires coding at least 50% of the time, while also instilling best practices for software development and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Build, grow, and lead the Data Assets to develop end-to-end technical solutions.
• Develop strategies and roadmaps to meet business objectives with existing or emerging technologies.
• Code at least 50% of the time in your preferred coding language.
• Apply creative thinking to determine technical solutions that align with corporate technology strategies.
• Instill best practices for software development and drive for engineering excellence.
• Provide technical guidance to the team including architecture, design, and code reviews.
• Monitor and operate production services to ensure user satisfaction and operational excellence.
• Identify and solve complex problems with simple solutions.
• Collaborate effectively in a global environment and drive consensus in cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• 12+ years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 10+ years with an Advanced degree, or 5+ years with a PhD.
• 15+ years of hands-on software development experience, including architecture design, coding, and data processing.
• Technical background with a deep understanding of data processing, data quality, and data management.
• Proven experience managing the software development of highly available enterprise-level applications and platforms.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Big Data technologies, Hadoop Stack, Java, Spring, JSON, Rest, XML, and relational databases.
• Experience leveraging GenAI capabilities.
