About the position

The Principal Data Engineer will play a crucial role in the Predictive Analytics Team, focusing on developing and operating a modern analytical data store that supports various aspects of the student journey. This position requires advanced expertise in data integration, data quality, data operations, data platform architecture, and data governance, contributing to decision-making processes aimed at enhancing student outcomes and academic excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes advanced data integration, data quality, data operations, data platform architecture, and data governance expertise to the Analytical Data Store.
  • Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.
  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the University's Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all students, associates, and/or university information as required.
  • Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Maintains order, cleanliness, and safety at work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by advanced understanding and applications of data integration, data warehousing, cloud computing, and data engineering is required; Graduate study in computer science, information systems, economics, mathematics, statistics, or engineering is highly desired.
  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience in data integration, data warehousing, cloud computing, and data engineering, or a combination thereof, and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in data-related requirements, design, development, and deployment efforts required.
  • Expert working knowledge in Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Integration Services.
  • Expert working knowledge in SQL/Transact-SQL.
  • Expert working knowledge in data warehouse design and data lake concepts.
  • Expert working knowledge of extract, transform, and load processes.
