About the position

The Principal Data & Information Architect at GE Aviation is responsible for architecting, maturing, and operationalizing the cloud-based data lake ecosystem within the DECA-EDAS organization. This role involves setting technology strategies, influencing internal architects, and ensuring the delivery of data services aligned with ITIL practices. The position requires a strong focus on security, customer advocacy, and mentoring of technologists, while engaging with industry partners to enhance the data services offered.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technology strategy and roadmap for all data services in alignment with ITIL practices.
  • Design enterprise-level references and artifacts to support the organizational technical vision.
  • Influence internal architects during the discovery, design, upgrade, and operational stages of platforms.
  • Build partnerships and trust with EDAS customers.
  • Engage with industry and vendor partners to relay information back to functional domain and product teams.
  • Execute documentation of standard work in accordance with FLIGHT DECK fundamentals.
  • Design and architect products with a focus on security and understanding of the secure development life cycle.
  • Advocate for customers through informal service reviews and formal service-level customer advisory boards.
  • Mentor technologists through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical skills development.
  • Represent and drive the Data technical community inside EDAS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience, or an Associate's degree with a minimum of 13 years of experience, or a High School Diploma with a minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in Data Engineering or Database and Cloud Architecture.
  • Experience with cloud computing and enabling services in the cloud (AWS or Azure preferred).
  • Familiarity with modern enterprise data and analytic architectures.
  • Understanding of data management key concepts such as data quality, data protection, data governance, data lineage, and metadata management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ingestion tools like Informatica, Talend, and HVR.
  • Familiarity with BI platforms like Tableau and Tibco Spotfire.
  • Understanding of cloud and data security principles such as access management and encryption.
  • Ability to articulate the value of business/customer outcomes.
