About the position

The Principal Data Scientist role is focused on driving the execution of business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs. This position involves developing and communicating business priorities, removing obstacles to performance, and ensuring continuous learning and adaptability. The role requires extensive coding and testing in various programming languages, as well as the ability to analyze business problems and recommend technology-focused solutions. The Principal Data Scientist will also be responsible for conducting data quality checks, guiding junior associates, and understanding the business value of data insights.

Responsibilities

  • Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs.
  • Develops and communicates business plans and priorities.
  • Removes barriers and obstacles that impact performance and provides resources.
  • Identifies performance standards, measures progress, and adjusts performance accordingly.
  • Develops contingency plans and demonstrates adaptability while supporting continuous learning.
  • Performs code development and testing using SQL, Java, C++, and Python.
  • Tests methods such as static, dynamic, software composition analysis, and manual penetration testing.
  • Writes code to develop required solution and application features based on business, technical, and data requirements.
  • Creates test cases to review and validate proposed solution designs.
  • Creates proofs of concept and tests code using appropriate testing approaches.
  • Deploys software to production servers and contributes to code documentation.
  • Conducts technical problem formulation using analytics, big data analytics, and automation techniques.
  • Analyzes business problems and questions assumptions to identify root causes.
  • Identifies and recommends approaches to resolve business problems with technology-focused solutions.
  • Sets relevant deliverables based on established success criteria and defines key metrics to measure progress and effectiveness of solutions.
  • Quantifies business impact and conducts data source identification.
  • Conducts database technologies and data quality checks on extracted data.
  • Reviews deliverables of junior associates and provides guidance on data source and quality.
  • Understands business value and relevance of data and data-enabled insights.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience in data analytics or related field; OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the same fields and 5 years of experience in data analytics or related field.
  • Experience designing and executing A/B tests and experiments using SQL.
  • Experience running statistical modeling and correlation tests using R, SAS, and Python.
  • Experience analyzing data using Teradata, SQL, and R.
  • Experience coding in the terminal command window using SQL and R/Python.
  • Experience analyzing clickstream web data using Hive SQL, R, Alteryx, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience analyzing customer transactional data using SQL.
  • Experience developing dashboards using Tableau.
  • Experience creating Macros using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience creating Data Pipelines and ETL Pipelines using SQL.
