About the position

As a Principal Data Scientist at Atlassian, you will be an integral part of a world-class Data Science team dedicated to leveraging data to drive insights about our products and customers. This role involves close collaboration with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, Data Engineers, Marketers, Privacy teams, and Executive teams across the organization. Your primary responsibility will be to utilize a variety of analysis and data-science techniques to understand customer engagement with Atlassian's products and communications. By doing so, you will help identify, design, and measure the success of product investments, ultimately influencing the direction of product development and business strategy. In this position, you will apply your technical expertise in quantitative analysis and experimentation to develop strategies that address some of the business's most significant challenges. You will focus on formulating hypotheses through analytical approaches and various methodologies, testing them rigorously to derive actionable insights. Your work will involve defining, understanding, and testing opportunities for product and business improvement, influencing roadmaps through your insights and recommendations. You will partner with cross-functional teams to inform and execute strategic decisions, identifying and measuring the success of product efforts through forecasting and monitoring key product metrics. Your ability to shape product development, quantify new opportunities, and identify challenges will be crucial in ensuring that the products built deliver value to users, businesses, and Atlassian as a whole. Additionally, you will employ storytelling techniques to communicate insights effectively across the organization, including to company leadership teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on a variety of product and business problems with cross-functional partners and become a trusted strategic partner.
  • Apply technical expertise with quantitative analysis, experimentation, and data presentation to develop business strategies.
  • Develop hypotheses through analytical approaches and test them using different methodologies and frameworks.
  • Define, understand, and test opportunities to improve products and influence roadmaps through insights and recommendations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to inform, influence, and execute strategic decisions.
  • Identify and measure the success of product efforts through forecasting and monitoring key product metrics.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Data Science or related fields.
  • Proficiency in SQL and another data manipulation programming language (e.g., Python, R).
  • Expertise in storytelling with data and familiarity with at least one visualization tool (e.g., Tableau, Looker, SAP Business Objects).
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts (e.g., regressions, A/B tests, clustering, probability) and when to adapt approaches to suit specific problems.
  • Experience driving projects or programs with proven impact on business strategy and performance through analytics.
  • Proven track record of crafting analysis into well-written content.
  • Experience advising and presenting to senior executives.
