About the position

As a Principal Data Scientist, you will lead our data science initiatives and play a critical role in shaping our data science models, including ML and AI models, for our foundational data science capabilities used to deliver key outcomes for business initiatives in planning and operations for business growth, customer growth and services to Albertson's partners. You will leverage your deep expertise in machine learning, as well as statistical and mathematical modeling to drive impactful business decisions and innovations at enormous scale. This role requires a blend of technical prowess, strategic thinking, and leadership skills. The position will be based in Pleasanton, CA or Boise, ID.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and analysts.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data science strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and prioritize high-impact projects.
  • Design, build and deploy large scale systems for demand forecasting, supply chain optimization and simulation, merchandising planning, dynamic price optimization.
  • Design, build and deploy customer growth systems at scale for personalized ad/ offer/ item recommendations, search, cross-sell strategies.
  • Design and implement state-of-the-art machine learning models and algorithms.
  • Analyze large, complex datasets to extract actionable insights.
  • Develop predictive and prescriptive models to drive business decisions.
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects from ideation to deployment.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality analytics solutions.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and stakeholder communications.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and marketing, to integrate data science solutions into business processes.
  • Present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Foster a data-driven culture within the organization.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in data science and machine learning.
  • Experiment with new techniques and technologies to continuously improve analytical capabilities.
  • Drive innovation through research and development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field like CS, DS, Engineering, Statistics, Math, etc. is preferred, or equivalent experience from building large scale solutions.
  • 8+ years of experience in data science or a related field.
  • Proven track record of leading data science teams and projects.
  • Extensive experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R).
  • Strong background in statistical modeling, data mining, and predictive analytics.
  • Background in ads, retail industry required.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Proficiency in writing production quality code and deploying solutions at scale.
  • Strong statistician with knowledge of forecasting, experiment design, recommendation systems, advertising.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Product mindset and systems thinking.
