About the position

The Principal Database Administrator at FMR LLC d/b/a Fidelity Investments is responsible for designing and deploying applications that utilize the latest innovations to create performance-driven systems. This role focuses on meeting business needs, stakeholder requirements, and regulatory guidelines while leveraging cloud resources such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The position involves the administration of various database environments, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and auto-scaling capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical guidance on the design and implementation of complex databases.
  • Documents design, operational procedures, and standards for highly complex/business critical databases.
  • Tests and implements new design features for general use.
  • Defines and evaluates database maintenance tools and build processes.
  • Establishes performance tuning criteria and methods in coordination with internal and external technical resources.
  • Designs, evaluates, and performs highly complex database performance and functionality tests.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects.
  • Provides technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and techniques to minimize future incident occurrence.
  • Defines security requirements and operational procedures to ensure network integrity, physical protection, and authorized access to the network and applications.
  • Develops business cases to justify information security architecture initiatives.
  • Enforces storage management standards and defines the scope of change and impact to other interfaces.
  • Creates high-level architecture design for the enterprise.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Modifies existing databases and database management systems or collaborates with programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Develops methods for integrating different products to ensure they work properly together.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in database administration and design.
  • Proficiency in Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, YugabyteDB, MongoDB, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, Aerospike, and Snowflake.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Experience with performance tuning and database optimization techniques.
  • Ability to document complex procedures and standards effectively.
  • Experience in mentoring and guiding junior team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in database management.
  • Experience with automation tools for database management.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices.
