About the position

Divergent is seeking a Principal Design Engineer, Structures Aerospace & Defense to lead the development of innovative aerospace frame architectures. This role focuses on transforming traditional manufacturing processes by utilizing new materials and technologies, aiming to create lightweight structural solutions for aerospace applications. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet safety and production requirements while supporting external customer programs.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage CAD models for individual Nodes and full structure assemblies.
  • Manage BOM creation and population of the Nodes and hardware.
  • Work closely with inter-group engineers to understand manufacturing/design capabilities and limitations.
  • Collaborate in a team environment to meet cross-functional requirements and achieve safety targets.
  • Present design summaries and comprehensive reports at customer meetings and to other engineers.
  • Create, refine, and execute new technical solutions for aerospace structures.
  • Work cross-functionally to implement cost reduction methods and product improvements.
  • Support prototype and production build activities.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace structure design.
  • 8+ years of CAD experience creating detailed and intricate models.
  • 8+ years of PLM experience.
  • Solid understanding of linear/nonlinear behaviors of advanced materials (composites, adhesives, metals).
  • Experience with aerospace load applications and MIL-STDs.
  • Outstanding comprehension of solid mechanics.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to manage personal workload under tight schedules.
  • Experience interfacing with engineering, testing, and manufacturing groups.
  • Experience supporting analysis and completing documentation for airworthiness certifications.
  • Experience supporting or engaging with DoD airworthiness stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Knowledge of overall vehicle systems/sub-systems and requirements.
