About the position

The Principal Electrical Engineer will provide expert technical direction and oversight on electrical engineering projects, focusing on the design, development, and improvement of electrical systems and components. This role ensures that projects align with industry standards and business objectives, and it requires a strong background in electrical engineering with a commitment to safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical systems for various applications, ensuring safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop technical specifications and oversee the selection of appropriate electrical components and materials.
  • Perform complex electrical calculations, simulations, and analyses to support system design and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical systems into larger project frameworks.
  • Evaluate and approve designs, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and relevant industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE).
  • Manage and execute multiple projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical oversight for the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues during development, installation, or operational phases.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure the timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Research and implement the latest technologies and methodologies to enhance the performance and efficiency of electrical systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing design processes and reducing operational risks.
  • Develop and implement testing procedures for electrical systems to ensure performance standards are met.
  • Ensure that all electrical designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as safety codes and standards.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of design processes, modifications, and testing results.
  • Assist in preparing reports and technical documentation for internal use and client presentations.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Serve as a technical consultant, offering insights and recommendations on complex electrical engineering challenges.
  • Communicate technical concepts and project progress effectively to stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • 7-12 years of experience in electrical engineering, with extensive experience in designing and developing electrical systems.
  • Proven track record of managing and executing electrical engineering projects from design to implementation.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software and tools for simulation and modeling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on detail and precision.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards, electrical codes, and best practices.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, or other process improvement methodologies is a plus.
