About the position

The Principal Electrical Engineer at Vantive will play a crucial role in the design, verification, and documentation of electronic circuits specifically for medical devices. This position is integral to the company's mission of providing best-in-class care in the kidney care space, building on a legacy of nearly 70 years in acute therapies and dialysis. The successful candidate will be expected to utilize their skills in schematic capture, layout techniques, mathematical modeling, and simulation, alongside hands-on lab skills such as troubleshooting and prototype building. This role requires a self-starter who can balance theoretical knowledge with practical application in design processes. As a member of both in-house and global cross-functional teams, the Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for performing design tasks that include schematic capture and layout of electronic circuits tailored for medical device applications. The role encompasses the design and prototyping of digital systems, including microprocessors and FPGAs, as well as analog circuits, audio, instrumentation, and optical circuits. The engineer will also be tasked with designing high-speed signal lines using transmission line techniques and conducting mathematical analyses of circuit designs. In addition to design responsibilities, the engineer will generate PCBA build files, including bills of materials (BOMs), gerbers, assembly, and fabrication drawings. Bench-level testing and verification will be essential, as will collaboration with contract manufacturers to ensure that PCBA design packages meet manufacturability and yield requirements. Documentation of design requirements, analyses, and descriptions will also be a key part of the role, ensuring that all design processes are thoroughly recorded and communicated.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design, schematic capture, and layout of electronic circuits for medical device use.
  • Design and prototype digital systems including microprocessors, FPGAs, and other supporting digital circuits.
  • Design analog circuits, including audio, instrumentation, and optical circuits.
  • Design high-speed signal lines involving transmission line techniques.
  • Conduct mathematical analysis of circuit designs.
  • Input schematic capture, including component selection.
  • Implement layout, including routing PCBs.
  • Generate PCBA build files, including BOMs, gerbers, assembly, and fab drawings.
  • Conduct bench-level testing and verification.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to deliver PCBA design packages that meet manufacturability and yield requirements.
  • Document design requirements, design analysis, and design descriptions.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field and 5+ years of experience, or M.S. and 3+ years of experience.
  • 3+ years' experience designing digital, analog, and mixed signal circuits.
  • Experience with schematic capture.
  • PCB implementation experience, including performing and/or overseeing layout and generating PCBA build files.
  • Board level debug and diagnosis experience using oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, and other bench test equipment.
  • Experience in board level design verification.
  • Experience in digital and analog circuit modeling.
  • Design for manufacturing/manufacturability experience.
  • Experience in design documentation, including design requirements, design analysis, and design descriptions.
