About the position

As a Principal Electrical Engineer at Worley, you will play a pivotal role in providing electrical engineering services to both the company and its clients. This position involves not only technical support but also supervision of the electrical engineering team, ensuring that all projects are executed efficiently and effectively. You will be responsible for managing a team of electrical engineers and designers, overseeing their work on various oil, gas, and chemical projects. Your leadership will be crucial in planning, organizing, and directing engineering work, ensuring that projects are completed on time, adhere to safety standards, and meet quality outcomes from conception to completion. In this role, you will collaborate closely with project management, clients, and other disciplines to achieve project objectives. You may lead one or more projects while providing guidance to other lead engineers within the program. Maintaining strong relationships with project management and clients is essential to ensure satisfaction with the quality and progress of the projects. Effective communication is key, as you will need to convey information clearly to your team and management, fostering a positive work environment that encourages learning and collaboration. Your responsibilities will also include delivering electrical engineering services that comply with Worley’s standards, customer requirements, and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications. You will initiate and manage project requirements, participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and ensure that project scopes are clear and changes are managed appropriately. Additionally, you will provide assistance during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, which may involve writing requisitions, conducting technical bid evaluations, and writing purchase orders. If required, you will act as the electrical engineering lead on specific projects, outlining project requirements, assigning tasks, and supervising progress to ensure that services meet all necessary requirements. Keeping up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering is vital, as is supporting junior personnel within the team. You will be expected to identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and seek assistance when necessary, ensuring that the team operates smoothly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of electrical engineers and designers and oversee their work on oil/gas/chemical projects.
  • Plan, organize, and direct engineering work, ensuring on-time completion, safety-in-design, and quality outcomes from conception to completion.
  • Collaborate with project management, clients, and other disciplines to meet project objectives.
  • Lead one or more projects while providing guidance for other lead engineers within the program.
  • Maintain relationships with project management and clients to ensure satisfaction with the quality and progress of the project.
  • Communicate effectively with the team and management, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Deliver electrical engineering services that meet Worley’s and its customers’ specifications, on time and within budget.
  • Initiate, manage, and supervise electrical engineering project requirements as needed.
  • Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow required checking procedures.
  • Ensure project scope is clear and that changes comply with project change management processes.
  • Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Act as the electrical engineering lead on specific projects if required.
  • Outline project requirements, assign tasks, and supervise progress if responsible for a team.
  • Proactively resolve discrepancies between Worley and its customers’ requirements.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering.
  • Assist and support junior personnel within the electrical engineering team as needed.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.

Requirements

  • A recognized and relevant BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent technical and practical engineering skills with the ability to deliver quality, accurate, and timely work.
  • Strong knowledge of the fundamental requirements of electrical engineering and basic requirements of other engineering fields.
  • Familiarity with applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory specifications.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite and electrical engineering specific software (ETAP, PSCAD, SPL).
  • Experience in the development and design of electrical distribution systems, equipment selection, protective relay selection, and power management system configuration.
  • Ability to perform/review power systems studies and protective device settings.
  • Extensive technical and practical experience in electrical engineering in a similar industry, including experience in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
