About the position

The Principal Electrical Board Design Engineer will be responsible for designing electrical and digital boards for advanced electronics systems, particularly in the Space Systems product line at BAE Systems. This role involves taking requirements and architectural diagrams to create solutions that include component selection, PCB design, and layout. The engineer will work in a collaborative environment, mentoring junior engineers and ensuring the reliability of designs through various analyses. The position offers a flexible work environment, including a hybrid work model, allowing for a balance between professional and personal life.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical and digital boards based on requirements and architecture diagrams.
  • Select components and create PCB stackups, symbols, and footprints.
  • Capture schematics and perform layout/placement and routing of designs.
  • Collaborate with System Engineers, Component Engineers, and other teams to ensure product reliability.
  • Conduct Worst Case Analysis to validate designs for applications in satellites and other missions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a similar field.
  • Board design experience with a focus on electrical and digital systems.
  • Experience working on larger engineering teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-starter with good teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to mentor others and willingness to be mentored.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cadence Allegro for board design.
  • Knowledge of Power Integrity and Signal Integrity tools like Cadence Sigrity or MGC Hyperlynx.
  • Experience with Gerber generation and various interfaces (ADC/DACs, SerDes, PCIe, JTAG, DDRx).
  • Advanced degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Perl, Tcl, Python).
  • Hands-on lab debugging experience.
  • Experience in performing Worst Case Analysis.
